Terms of Service
1. About Cai
Cai is free, open-source software distributed under the MIT License. The source code is publicly available on GitHub. By downloading, installing, or using Cai, you agree to these terms.
2. Open Source License
Cai is provided under the MIT License. You are free to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the software, subject to the conditions of the MIT License. The full license text is included with the software and available in the project repository.
3. Disclaimer of Warranty
Cai is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the software is with you.
4. Limitation of Liability
In no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability, whether in an action of contract, tort, or otherwise, arising from, out of, or in connection with the software or the use or other dealings in the software.
5. AI Providers and Third-Party Services
By default, Cai processes everything locally on your Mac using a built-in model or a local AI server (such as LM Studio or Ollama). You may choose to connect to cloud AI providers by configuring your local model server to proxy requests, or by entering a cloud API key directly in Cai's settings. If you use a cloud provider, your selected text is transmitted to that service for processing. You are solely responsible for your use of these third-party services and for complying with their respective terms of service and privacy policies. Cai does not control and is not responsible for the output generated by any AI model.
6. User Responsibility
You are responsible for how you use Cai and any content processed through it. Do not use Cai for any purpose that is unlawful or prohibited by these terms.
Cai allows advanced users to create custom output destinations that execute shell commands and AppleScript on your Mac. These scripts run with your user-level permissions and can perform any action your account is allowed to perform — including modifying or deleting files, sending network requests, and controlling other applications. You are solely responsible for any scripts or commands you configure. The authors of Cai are not liable for any damage, data loss, or unintended consequences resulting from user-created scripts or destinations.
7. Website
This website (getcai.app) is provided for informational purposes. We strive to keep the information accurate and up to date, but make no guarantees about the completeness or accuracy of the content.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Cai after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
9. Applicable Law and Jurisdiction
These terms shall be governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. If you are a consumer residing in the European Union, you also enjoy the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.
You have the right to file a claim through the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
10. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
