Privacy Policy
1. Data Protection at a Glance
General Information
The following information provides a simple overview of what happens to your personal data when you use Cai. Personal data is any data that can be used to identify you personally.
2. Privacy-First Philosophy
Cai is built with privacy as a core principle. All AI processing happens locally on your machine. Your clipboard data and text selections never leave your computer. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal content or clipboard data.
3. Data Collection on Our Website
Privacy-Friendly Analytics
We use Umami, a privacy-friendly web analytics tool, to understand basic website usage. This tool:
- Does not use cookies or track personal information
- Does not track users across websites
- Does not store IP addresses
- Collects only anonymous aggregate statistics (page views, referrers, browser types)
- Is fully GDPR compliant without requiring cookie consent
Server Log Files
The website provider automatically collects and stores information in server log files that your browser automatically transmits. These include:
- Browser type and version
- Operating system used
- Referrer URL
- Time of the server request
This data is not merged with other data sources and is used solely for technical operation and security purposes.
4. Local Data Processing
When you use Cai, all text processing occurs on your device through your locally installed AI platform (LM Studio, Ollama, etc.). Cai does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on our servers.
If you connect Cai to a cloud AI provider (such as OpenAI or Gemini), your selected text is sent to that service for processing. This is entirely opt-in — by default, Cai uses a local built-in model. API keys are stored locally on your Mac and are never transmitted to Cai.
5. Crash Reporting (Optional)
Cai includes optional, anonymous crash reporting via Sentry. This is disabled by default and only enabled if you opt in. When enabled, crash reports contain technical diagnostic data (error type, stack traces, OS version) and never include clipboard content, AI conversations, or personal information. You can disable crash reporting at any time in Cai's settings.
6. Third-Party Services
This website is hosted on GitHub Pages. Please refer to GitHub's Privacy Statement for information about their data processing practices.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to information about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients, and the purpose of data processing at any time free of charge. You also have the right to request the correction or deletion of this data. For this purpose and for further questions on the subject of data protection, you can contact us at any time.
